8 Practical Motivators for Cold-Weather Workouts

Stop dreading your Winter workouts and start looking forward to them — there is so much to appreciate about cold weather exercise. Though you may want to cozy up in your pajamas and watch your favorite Netflix show on all of the coldest days this Winter, we are bringing the motivation right to you! Here are 8 ways to motivate yourself to stay on track with your workouts all Winter long.

1. Tap Into Your Discipline

When you are not feeling motivated, the best thing to do is to tap into your discipline. Discipline is what keeps you going even when you do not feel like doing something. It is what drives you to show up, day in and day out, even though some of those days will be tough. When it is cold outside, tap into your discipline and stay on track, despite the challenges that the cold weather brings.

2. Don’t Leave the House

You heard us — just stay in! No, this does not mean staying in and watching Netflix, but you can keep those pajamas on. Get your daily Garage Grind Training workout in from home. Our workouts are designed to be done with minimal equipment, from anywhere, so you can get a great sweat in and not have to brave the cold. We call that a win!

3. Get Warm

If what you hate most about Winter is the cold weather, then exercise should be an easy choice — it will warm you up in no time! Use this as motivation to do your workouts even in the cold. Even just a few jumping jacks or burpees will have you feeling warm in just a few seconds.

4. Treat Yourself to a Warm Meal

Before you begin your workout, throw some ingredients in a crockpot or prepare the ingredients for a soup or warm meal. Then, use this as a reward following your exercise. Not only can soups warm you up quickly and provide comfort in chilly weather, but they can also be packed full of nourishing ingredients. Toss in your favorite vegetables and protein, along with some delicious seasoning for a soup that will fill you up and help you reach your fitness goals.

5. Get Dressed (In Layers)

If you cannot commit to a workout, commit to putting on your workout clothes. Many times, once you take the first step towards doing your daily exercise, it will make the rest of the steps come easily. For cold weather days, dressing in layers is a great way to stay warm before your body heats up and then avoid overheating once you are mid-workout, by peeling off the layers.

6. Beat the Blues

Cold weather means the temperatures drop, but your mood does not have to. Beat the Winter blues by staying active. Exercise has been shown to improve your mood and release endorphins. The next time you are feeling down, use that as an added motivator for your workout.

7. Remember Your Goals

Reaching your goals requires commitment and dedication, even on the cold days. If you are like most people and you set a few goals for the New Year, it is more important than ever to stay on track and start the year on the right foot. When you are struggling to get the motivation to work out when it is cold outside, remind yourself of your goals and the importance of your continued dedication in achieving them.

8. Imagine Your Spring

What does your Spring look like for you? Do you plan on going to the beach? Do you want to go on hikes? Do you want to look great in lighter clothing? The work done for the healthy body you want in the Springtime starts now when it is cold outside. Get motivated for your workouts now by imagining your future!
